Don't Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus By Mo Willems
I'm sure you're familiar with this classic in which the pigeon is trying to get you, the reader, to let him drive the bus. He begs, wheedles and tries to reason with the reader so that he can ride the bus. This book was Mo Willems first book and kids love it.
This is a great book to teach kids persuasion / argumentation! The persuasive techniques in this book are: exaggeration, humor, comparison and appealing directly to the audience. As examples come up in the text, chart them so they have an anchor chart to refer back to.
Writing activity? Have them persuade the pigeon that driving the bus isn't all it's cracked up to be! Make sure they incorporate their new techniques into their writing.
