Getting Started with Google Classroom

Getting Started with Google Classroom

Why use Google Classroom?  It's interactive, fun, easily accessible for students from home and best of all, NO COPIES!!

What do you need? It's part of the Google Apps for Education (GAFE) suite.  You create or put the assignments online and grade them there.  No papers to take home.  Woo hoo!  Of course, you need a device that connects to the Internet.

First, you need a Google account and one for each of your students.  Talk to your tech person and find out of your district has Google accounts for your students that you could set up.

Type in Google Classroom and create a class.  Then it will generate a class code for your students to join your class.

It will look like this!  You will see your class name and any upcoming assignments.

See the plus sign in the bottom right corner?  That's where you create assignments.  You can ask a question, send an announcement, add an assignment or reuse an older post.  If you have a project you created in Google Drive, you can share it with the students through Google Drive. You can also upload a file from your computer, add a video file or a hyperlink. You have the option of view/read the file, edit the same file or make a copy for each kid.  I usually use this option.  It will create a separate assignment for each kid to their own drive.

When they are done, they submit it to you.  It's easy to see how many students have finished and submitted their work.

When you click on it, you can see their work and assign them a grade on the left side.  You can choose the scale for grading- 10 points or 100!

I love use Google Classroom and I love not having to make copies!!  The kids are more engaged and interested in their work.  Hope this helps you too!
